WHAT IS SPECIAL PERSONAL INFORMATION?
There is a special category of information called ‘special personal information’ which includes all information relating to religious or philosophical beliefs, race or ethnic origin, trade union membership, political persuasion, health or sex life, biometric information or criminal behaviour.
It is important to know what constitutes special personal information, as there are additional requirements in respect of how and when this may be processed. This is discussed further in the chapter on processing special information.
There are also special rules which apply to the processing of children’s information which is elaborated on in the chapter on processing children’s information.
